April 2011 eNewsletter
In order to keep you abreast of what is going on in the club,
the board has decided to periodically publish a short newsletter. You
will also find everything on the club’s website -
http://hollandamericaclub.com.
We urge you to regularly check that site for new developments such as new
events, images of past events, special links of interest and some nice Power
Point presentations such as the one of Anton Pieck.

On January 27, my son Nathan and I (Vincent Basset) participated in a PTA
sponsored 'Multicultural Fair' at the Pat May Center in Bedford. Its goal was
to show the vast array of different
cultures the HEB district has. We brought many items to
demonstrate, present and display the Dutch nationality and culture. Some of the
other cultures represented were: Chinese, Dominican Republican, Mexican, Peruvian & Polynesian. Many high school students
attended and had to write a report about each culture. The main questions for
us were about wind mills, wooden shoes, the small size
of the Netherlands and the meaning of the color 'orange' in the Dutch culture.
This first annual 'Fair' was a huge success and we are looking for some volunteers
to help out and participate in next year’s event
representing our Dutch culture and heritage. Contact me, please @ 817-545-1850.

The annual Rijst tafel was a delicious and well-attended event on March 18.
Seven cooks prepared many fantastic Indonesian dishes, soup and desserts. Some
of the dishes we enjoyed and tasted were: babi ketjap, sajoer lodeh, sambal goreng
telor and of course plenty of kroepoek
and peanut sauce. Het was smullen
geblazen
!!
The location at 'Cebolla Fine Flowers' in Dallas was perfect,
roomy and it was erg gezellig [good ambiance].
Many thanks to all the volunteers who made this special event such a big
success!
