Dear Members of the Holland-America Club:

As you know, our last Tulip Talk editor moved to Canada and we have not =
found a new editor. In order to keep you abreast of what is going on in =
the club, the board has decided to periodically publish a short newslett=
er.  You will also find everything on the club=92s website  - http://hol=
landamericaclub.com.  We urge you to regularly check that site for new d=
evelopments.

For instance, there is a possibility that the venue for our Sinterklaas =
celebration might change.  As in the past, Sint Nicolaas will once again=
 visit Dallas this year.  The good and holy gentleman is arriving by boa=
t on Saturday, November 13, in Harderwijk, the Netherlands.  He will arr=
ive in Dallas on time for his visit with the children on Sunday, Decembe=
r 5th.  We are thrilled that he will be here on the traditional day for =
the celebration of his birthday.  =

 =

Sinterklaas is one of the highlights of the HAC. It is always attended b=
y many children and their parents and grandparents. We have known adults=
 to attend whose children have flown the nest!  The festivities are simp=
ly =91oergezellig=92 as they say in Dutch.  Tante Meta will again be the=
re to read the children a story.  The story will be read in English, to =
accommodate non-Dutch parents.  The webpage for the Sinterklaas event (h=
ttp://hollandamericaclub.com/sinterklaas2010/) will be published when th=
e details are finalized.  Please refer to that page for information abou=
t date, time, place, gifts, etc..

This year your Club held an Autumn Dinner Dance.  It was a wonderful eve=
ning.  Marc de Haan was our DJ and under his auspices we danced the nigh=
t away. At this event we were introduced to the newest member of the clu=
b, Krisje (Kristin) Ritchie.  Krisje is American, but she lived briefly =
in the Netherlands.  She speaks some Dutch, has a Dutch boyfriend and kn=
ows how to make bitterballen!  Before she moved to Fort Worth she was a =
member of the Holland Club in Houston.  All those who did not attend rea=
lly missed out on a fun evening.  You can find pictures of the event by =
clicking at the bottom left on the club's main webpage (http://hollandam=
ericaclub.com).  Although, in my opinion, the pictures don=92t quite do =
justice to the good time we had.  The dinner/dance was attended by 34 pe=
ople.  Let=92s double that number next year!  You will be glad you did.

Your Board is looking into the possibility of a simple gathering before =
Christmas.  Early January we will again have our annual New Year's olieb=
ollen evening.  Please check our website and your email for new announce=
ments.

This club year we have 77 memberships to date, which includes 137 adults=
 and 38 children.  The club has gone "green" and the annual paper direct=
ory will no longer be published. Instead you can find our on-line direct=
ory by clicking on =91Directory=92 in the header of any of our webpages =
and then follow the simple instructions.

Our program chairperson, Alice de Haan, and your Board, are working very=
 hard to provide activities and to keep the club active.  It would be go=
od to see a large participation at all of our events.
